Tech review: “Ring Floodlight Cam: the best protection”
20 Feb 2018 by Claire Vickery in Latest News
Pocket-lint has taken a good look at the Ring Floodlight Cam and found it to be, “…one of the best….”
“The Ring Floodlight Cam is one of the best outdoor security cameras we’ve come across. It records great quality video both during the day and at night, offers effective and clear two-way communication, and the addition of floodlights adds an extra layer of protection to your home.”
The independent gadget news and reviews site put Ring Floodlight Cam through its paces, having installed and used it in a home setting. Some of the features they particular favoured included:
- Fantastic wide-angle lens to capture a large area
- Easy and effective two-way communication
- Floodlights help to illuminate live view and video clips at night
- Easy to install
- Relatively cheap subscription costs
The article goes on to discuss the installation technique and acknowledges that, as it’s a hardwired product, the owners may want to get a professional installer in to complete the job.
Pocket-lint also liked the adaptability of the product, noting that both the lights and the camera can be adjusted to suit its environment; that it can withstand a harsh winter (-20°c) to a sweltering 48°c and the customisable motion detection zones.
The review went on to elaborate on the motion zones, which it considers sets the Ring Floodlight Cam out from the rest.
Ring Motion Zones: Customised motion tracking. The main reason to get a Ring Floodlight Cam is for its motion detection. It has two-tier detection, so it differentiate between objects and people. The passive infrared sensors are more sensitive to objects, such as cars and animals, but you can adjust the settings so it’s less sensitive and only notifies you when it detects people.”

Ring Floodlight Cam can be used in isolation or as part of a Ring of Security, using two or more Ring products that all feed into one app for seamless monitoring.
